4. Have you ever been told you have anemia, a low white blood cell count, or a low platelet count?

5. Have you ever had redness or rash in the shape of a butterfly across your nose and cheeks?

6. Have you ever had a fever over 100 °F for more than a few days?

7. Has the sun ever given you a rash that is not sunburn?

8. Have you ever had chest pain while taking deep breaths?

9. Have you ever had protein in your urine or swelling in your legs and ankles on both sides, and at the same time?

10. Have you ever felt persistent, extreme fatigue and weakness for days or weeks at a time, even after plenty of sleep?

ABOUT LUPUS

LUPUS is a chronic disease that causes inflammation of various parts of the body, especially the skin, joints, blood and kidneys. The body normally makes proteins called antibodies to protect the body against viruses, bacteria, and other foreign materials. In an autoimmune disease like lupus, the immune system loses its ability to tell the difference between foreign substances and its own cells and tissues. The immune system then makes antibodies directed against “self”.
Lupus strikes 1.5 million Americans, and there are approximately 31,000 men, women and children who suffer with this disease in Tennessee.

7,700 Families in
Tennessee affected

Facts:
Lupus is NOT infectious, rare, or cancerous. Lupus can be difficult to diagnose as the symptoms of lupus can be transient joint and muscle pain, fatigue, a rash caused by or made worse by sunlight, low grade fevers, hair loss, sores in the mouth, or painful sensitivity of the fingers to cold.
